2026 "IT HAPPENED IN MONTEREY" TOURNAMENT REGISTRATION OPEN

“It Happened in Monterey” Baseball Tournament October 2-4, 2026

Please read carefully:
Keith DaCosta is proud to host the 2026 “It Happened in Monterey” baseball tournament.
Please join us for a fun weekend of baseball and family enjoyment set in the beautiful Monterey
peninsula.
This year’s tournament will take place Friday at Frank E. Sollecito Ballpark, 777 Pearl Street,
Monterey and Saturday & Sunday at the Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) Baseball Field,
980 Fremont Street, Monterey.
Teams
We will consist of 5 teams, comprising of 3 WCFBA Giants/A’s combined teams of 12 players,
and our visiting friends the Seattle Mariners and Mike Gin All Stars. Signups will be on a first come-first-serve basis until Wednesday, September 9, or when the teams are filled. Should we
fill the teams before the deadline, we may consider inviting 4 WCFBA teams for a 6 team
tournament.

Hotel Information

We have reserved two blocks of rooms at our host hotel, the Hilton Garden Inn Monterey
located at 1000 Aguajito Road, Monterey, CA 93930. Call reservations at 831-373-6141. Our
discounted room rates are $249 per night for the early bird VIP block and $268 per night for the
standard, block plus service fees and taxes, for Thursday, October 1 though Sunday, October
4. A limited number of blocked out rooms are available at these rates through Tuesday,
September 1, or until they are sold out. To make a reservation, book on line or call.

Cocktail Party

Our welcoming cocktail party for all players and guests will be 4:00pm to 6:00pm
Friday, October 2, at the Hilton Garden Inn Monterey main lobby Back of the Calla Lounge.

Banquet

We have a special Banquet Program for everyone this year! Our banquet will be held Saturday,
October 3, at the Hilton Garden Inn Monterey with cocktails at 6:00pm in the Big Sur Room,
and dinner at 7:00pm in the Vista Del Mar Room. The cocktail hour will include hors
d’oeuvres with a no-host bar. Dinner will be buffet style featuring several dishes and desserts
specially prepared by the hotel’s Executive Chef. Selected fine wines will be provided with
dinner. In addition, there will be a no host cash bar. Additional dinners will be $90 each. We
hope to have a spectacular evening with the special program including the fun “LCR” game.

Game Schedule

Friday, 8:00am, 10:30am & 1:30pm at Sollecito Field.
Saturday, 8:00am, 10:30am, 1:00pm and 3:30pm at Monterey Peninsula College.
Sunday, 8:00am, 10:30am & 1:30pm at Monterey Peninsula College.

Signups

The tournament fee will be $250 per player which include three days of baseball and the Friday
Cocktail Party.
The Saturday Banquet Dinner Program will be $90 each for players and guests with no fee for
children under 12 years. We have a special program this year.

Visiting Teams

Please list your players names along with your total banquet count and send
your payment on or before Thursday, September 10.

2026 LEAGUE IS NOW OPEN

Registration for the 2026 League is now open! You’ll need to register and pay by February 22 in order to be included in the draft. The draft is scheduled for March 1. We would appreciate players signing up as soon as possible.
To register, go to the WCFBA.ORG website, log in to your account, and then select the League Registration link.

If you are not a member of the Association, please reply to this email (info@wcfba.org) and provide your contact phone number and email address.When registering, go to your Player Profile and complete or update the Contact, Skills, Emergency Contact, Waiver, and Code of Conduct information.

The first games will tentatively be played on March 29 or April 12. The full season schedule will be finalized after the signups close. As in the past, we are not scheduling games for Easter, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July Weekend, or Labor Day Weekend.

Rates are the same as last year. The fee to register as a full-time player is $300. Part-time pool players will pay $30 per game. Players signed up as full-time players will pay $25 per game.

2025 PAUL ROMAN AWARD

David has been a decades long essential member of the WCFBA. He has coached several League teams to first place finishes. He received his nickname, “NEW GUY” at his first tournament in Palm Springs. He is a true baseball hero in the WCFBA. He is our Tournament Coordinator. He and his wife Patricia have hosted the Association Banquet several years. His sons play along with us. He has organized and led several non-WCFBA/MSBL teams built upon our league memberships. We are a successful Baseball League built on camaraderie and love of the game because of David Hansen’s efforts.

2024 LEAGUE CHAMPIONS - MIAILOVICH/REALINI

The WCFBA 2024 League champions are Team 3, coached by Jim Realini and Ray Miailovich!

Besides the coaches, the other players on the team were Dennis Acevedo, Kelly Berger, Rudy Besikof, Steve Conroy, Paul Gallagher, Dave Hansen, Richard Hansen, Fred Rosenzweig, Doug Rusch, and Steve Youtsey.

Congratulations on winning 10 of their last 11 games for a 10-5 league record!

Second place went to Team 2, coached by Dave Hall and Mark Fitzpatrick. They finished 1.5 games behind.

2022 LEAGUE CHAMPIONS - DH SQUAD

The 2022 league champions are the DH Squad!

Team 4, coached by Richard Hansen and David Hansen, ended up with a record of 10 - 4 for a whopping .714 average.

Congratulations to all the members of the DH Squad and we hope to see everyone again next spring!


2021 LEAGUE CHAMPIONS - IT'S A TIE!

The 2021 league championship was declared a tie between Teams 2 and 5 (combined teams pictured below).

Team 2, coached by Richard and David Hansen, ended up with a record of 8-2-1, while Team 5, coached by Jeff Jones and Rob Lanterman ended with an 8-3 record.

Congratulations to all the members of these championship teams, and we hope to see everyone again next spring!


2019 LEAGUE CHAMPS - CABOT/CALLOWAY

Cabot and Calloway are 2019 League Champions.
The CabCals finished the season with 10 straight wins and overall record of 13-2!

Members of the champion team included Mark Cabot, Ken Calloway, Mark Gemello, Mark Fitzpatrick, Chris Justen, Bill Pedersen, Guy Peabody, Steve Jaurigui, Dennis Briskin, Dave Gamson, Scott Lueders and assorted set of pool players that helped out along the way.


THE VIGILANT BASTARDS ARE 2018 LEAGUE CHAMPS

The winners of the 2018 WCFBA League were the Vigilant Bastards, coached by Dave Vigil and Gary Hansen. They finished with a record of 10 wins, 5 losses and 1 tie, scoring 192 runs and allowing only 132 runs.

Members of the league champion team were Craig Alexander, Keith DaCosta, Jim Diamond, David Hansen, Gary Hansen, Richard Hansen, John Mohr, Guy Peabody, Robert Shanks, Elmer Studer and David Vigil.

In second place, only 1/2 game behind the winners, were the Crown Royals, coached by Tom Sanfilippo and Steve Jaurigui.

The team coached by Mike Miller and Matthew Schmuck came in third, with the Colonel's Crushers (coached by Jim Realini and Mark Cabot) close behind. Rounding out the standings was the Mike Mello and Jonathan Davis team, only 4.5 games behind the league champions.

Thank you to all who participated, including those who were pool players throughout the season.

Sign ups for 2019 will be announced in early spring.


KEITH DACOSTA NAMED 2018 PAUL E. ROMAN AWARD WINNER

At this year's Lodi tournament, previous Roman Award winners presented Keith DaCosta with the 2018 Paul E. Roman award.

Keith has served on the WCFBA Board of Directors and as Tournament Director. He also founded and hosts the Monterey tournament.

His actions and support for WCFBA truly exemplify the characteristics honored by the Roman Award: Good sportsmanship, positive attitude, determination, congeniality, compassion for his fellow players and love of the game.

METAL YOUTS ARE 2016 LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

Team 1, Metal Youts, are the 2016 league champions. They were coached to a 10-5 record by David Hansen and Richard Hansen. Other members of the championship team were Gary Armas, Dave Bouffard, John Gumas, Gary Hansen, Lynn Harkrider, Lorne Johnson, Chris Justen, Mike Martinez and Kim Rupert. Congratulations to all of these fine players!

THE ANTIQUATED GUYS ARE 2015 WCFBA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS!

Team 6, The Antiquated Guys, are the 2015 league champions. They were coached to an 11-3-1 record by Ken Calloway and Mark Gemello. Other members of the championship team were Mike Chaple, David Chooey, Eddie Contreras, Tony Hensley, Scott Lueders, Guy Peabody, Bill Pederson and Jonathan Tiemann. Congratulations to all of these fine players!

Team 4, The R&Rs, coached by Rick Liebman and Ray Miailovich, came in second with a 7-6-2 record. They were closely followed by Team 5, The Ball Busters, coached by Mike Shaffer and Keith DaCosta, with a record of 7-7-1 and Team 2, The Summer Gamers, coached by David Hansen and Kim Rupert, with a 6-7-2 record.

RUN ROBBERS ARE 2014 WCFBA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS - 2015 LEAGUE BEGINS PLAY IN MARCH

The 2014 West Coast Fantasy Baseball Association league champions are the Run Robbers coached by Ken Calloway and Mark Gemello. Team members include Christopher Jauss, Craig Alexander, Guy Peabody, Jim Diamond, Kevin Zimmerman, Lorne Johnson, Rob Lanterman, Terry Lee, and Tommy Ellis.   They completed the season with a record of 10-5.

The 2015 WCFBA League will commence play in March and will continue on close to a bi-weekly basis into October. Six teams will fill out the league. A’s and Giants players will be combined into one league draft.  Pool players will be assigned to the most appropriate team on a given week. 

Those who wish to play full-time should respond to an email request in early February. A draft will take place in early March to pick the teams. Part-time or 'pool' players should respond to the pool coordinator's request by Thursday at noon of a given play week to get on the priority list. Open roster spots will be filled each week from these pool player signups. 


DOUBLE V'S REPEAT AS WCFBA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

Your 2013 WCFBA champions are the Double V's who also won in 2012. The team was coached once again by Carl Vargas and Dave Vigil. Congratulations to the coaches and their team members: Robert Benson, Ruben Donig, Tommy Ellis, William Ferreira, Mark Gemello, John Haines, Denis Horn, Guy Peabody, and Mike Shaffer. They completed the season with a record of 12-3 and won the league by one game over the Sugar Rusch coached by Ray Miailovich and Doug Rusch.  See a picture of the champs in Napa below:
